How many people have ever seen a drum set and not been tempted to play it? The first thing to keep in mind when learning to play drums or any other musical instruments is that it is going to take practice. In music world, some of great players do not get really great thinking about playing drums. They spent lot of hours, practicing musical instruments or basics. When you are practicing the drums, the better you will become at playing them.

The most important step in learning to play drums or other musical instruments is finding a great teacher. In these days, finding a good teacher to learn to play drum is so easy. The first thing is what kind of lesson you want? There are lots of videos, online live teachers, several books, and in the person drum lessons, that would take at a music store. If you are a self-motivated learner, the best way is videos. If you are getting back into playing drums after taking some time off, a book may be your answer. If you want to learn drums from a live teacher, you will be able to have any mistakes or technique problems corrected. The best way is having a scheduled lesson with a drum teacher will ensure that you are accountable for your assignments, and your progress can also be tracked.

If you started to play with a great big drum set with lots of symbols great, however,it is not a great way to start. The best way to learn to play drum starts out on a drum pad. This can be a piece of rubber mounted on a block of wood, or something that looks more like a snare drum.Of course, you will need some time actually playing on drums too, since different drums and musical instruments have different feels to them. However,it is easier to pay attention to the instruments you are learning on a drum pad as opposed to a drum set.The drum pad is much quieter and cheaper than a drum set, which will probably make others in your house very happy.

If you choose to have a live drum teacher,he or she will let you know what type of drum pad, drum to get.If not, check with someone in a music store for advice.

Guitar is also one of the popular musical instruments;learning guitar is a great idea. Most famous guitarists start playing when they are young, high school or even younger.Music is not all fun and games. There are theories to learn and other basics like scales, chords, and harmonics. These can get bit of confusion, especially when you are trying to play the guitar.

Everyone knows that you do not get a second chance to get a first impression. The best thing that can happen in a first lesson is to play some thing. Playing an instrument is a very personal thing. It can be very scary when people do not do well. So remember, in your first class keep it very simple and keep it exciting. This will let you to play with the guitar and touch the strings.

Get ready to bring your own guitar to the lessons. Guitar is an active instrument. There is a lot of movement, emotion, and fun.Learning with an example is a better idea.It helps us to have them hear what things are supposed to sound like. This will add an extra layer of fun to any lesson while learning guitar. Not only that, but everyone will see that how to play the guitar.Bringing your own guitar to the lesson will also keep us interested in learning.

The greatest thing about music is that there is the possibility of finding out new things.Challenge your mind to think outside of the box,to try new arrangements and to just play around with the instrument. It is wonderful to see how we will take leaps and bounds with learning if we are allowed to play a bit.

For me, unschooling is a natural fit for leading an authentic life. Unschooling looks different in every family simply because it is guided and defined by the individuals that make up that family, including the children. The basic concept is that learning happens naturally, through living life. It doesn’t have to be separated from life or institutionalized.

Today, for example, I was making granola with my 5-year-old daughter. I’ve done a lot of baking with my kids and math and chemistry are naturally embedded in the activity. I think my eldest learned fractions primarily from using the various measuring cups and spoons. But today, we got a lesson in physics, as well. Sadie was stirring the honey and oil together with a spoon. The bowl was metal and she wasn’t holding onto it.

“Mom, look at this!” she squealed. Since she wasn’t holding onto the bowl, the spoon was spinning that rather than the ingredients. “Look how high it can get!” she noticed. The faster she spun, the higher the liquid rose on the side of the bowl, leaving almost nothing at the bottom.
I’m not a scientist and I remember very little from my science classes in high school so I had to look up the word and definition for what I was seeing. Sadie could care less about that. They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, but an experience is worth even more.

My ten-year-old daughter is trying to find local horse rescues on the computer. She tends to like for me to give her direction so when she came to me feeling bored and wanting something to do, that’s what I suggested because I know she wants to volunteer at a rescue and I haven’t gotten the chance to look it up yet.

As I’m sitting and writing this, I’m watching my practically-eight-year-old son making a diving board off of our couch using his fort-building kit (pieces of peg board, posts with holes, screws, nuts and bolts.) He’s figured out how to support the front but is still working on how to stabilize the back when weight is put on the front. He’s used ropes but it’s still not quite stable. Now he’s got a back-up plan: pillows and blankets at the bottom. He’s decided it will be more like a dunk tank (which he and his dad made this summer) than a diving board. And the experiment continues with his sisters getting in the act, too. It works as a diving board only if someone holds the back end down. Ari has used several layers of pegboard for the diving platform to prevent it from breaking.

I could categorize all the various lessons the kids are learning from this exercise or any of the other activities from our daily lives. But there’s no need. It is organic learning, experiencing, living and they will retain and use and build on whatever is authentic and meaningful to them.

Authenticity begins young. I think we come into the world as authentic beings and our experiences during our formative years help to determine our connection to our authentic self. School age has gotten younger and younger, there are fewer recesses, more expectations, less time to play and be children. I would hazard a guess that all that this does is lead to delayed childhood, adults acting out their unfinished development in sometimes subtle, sometimes obvious ways.

Learning doesn’t have to be compulsory and by making it so, we take the ownership of that learning away from our kids. As a society we tell them what to learn, when to learn it and how to learn it and if the schools’ formula doesn’t fit the child, too bad. Unschooling gives the ownership of learning back to the individual child. He/she seeks out what is interesting, stimulating, enjoyable. As a parent, I’m not a teacher, necessarily, but a facilitator, a guide, a partner in that learning. I try to provide a variety of resources and exposure to different things but I don’t force them to learn anything or provide external motivation (ie: positive or negative reinforcement) for them to learn. I don’t need to. All I need to do is open my eyes and my mind and see that they are learning every day, every minute. They are either learning from what they are experiencing in their physical world or they are learning from going inward, reflecting, imagining.

But I can’t judge what they learn or the ways in which they learn because it is theirs and it is authentic to them. It is driven by them and I am there to support and nurture and validate their experience, not to create an experience for them that I think will result in their success or intelligence or whatever other expectation one might have. Sure, I want them to be successful out in the world but I don’t define that success–they do. And above all, I want them to know themselves. That is the best education of all.

Secondly, The kind of cake you want would be your next decision. Chocolate cake, white cake, yellow cake or a combination. Then what kind of filling you want for your cake, such as chocolate, fruit or different type of mouses for example. With so many options to choose from you want to ask the baker if you can try some of them to make your decision easier.

Before digital cameras and computer software we were stuck with film and photo processing which pretty much left us stuck with had. If you didn\’t get the money shot you were out of luck. There was no way to fix the photo or to even know that it wasn\’t that great to start with until you received it back from the photo processor. To be sure, there were a few of highly prized individuals who could attempt to right your wrongs; however, finding them and being able to pay their price was beyond most peoples capabilities.

Today, without a doubt Adobe Photoshop CS4 is one of the most popular photo editing software programs on the market. If you haven\’t heard of the program yet let me enlighten you, Photoshop CS4 not only allows you to edit your photos but comes built in with loads of tools for manipulating them as well. Used by both amateurs and professionals Photoshop CS4 is well versed at meeting any challenge that is thrown at it.

What is it about Photoshop CS4 that makes it so impressive?

Built into the program are all the tools needed to edit, enhance, and even manipulate your photos. Previously lighting issues would ruin many a photo however using Photoshop CS4 you can fix these problems, making your photo brighter and the colors more vivid . By tweaking the brightness, contrast, color balance and intensity tools you can make the photograph look as if it were taken under perfect lighting conditions.

Red eye is another common problem that plagues those who have even the best cameras. Built in to Photoshop CS4 is a red eye tool that detects red eye, whether it be on a human or an animal, and eliminates it. Photoshop CS4 is so good no one will ever know your subject had the wild eyed look about them.

One of the biggest challenges of any photographer is capturing family and friends on film. Regardless of how great the photo turns out there will be complaints about wrinkles, the photos make them look fat, etc. Your sister will complain about the zit on her nose, your mother will complain about her saggy chin … I think you are getting the idea here.

Adobe Photoshop CS4 contains everything you need to make your family and friends appear perfect. You can quickly erase wrinkles and age spots, you can make faces look fuller or thinner, even add color to the cheeks to make pale faces look healthier; remove unwanted objects in the face, such as pimples, and acne scars. Even adding makeup or changing an outfit is possible with Adobe Photoshop CS4.

Eliminate complaints and even bring out a few smiles using the tools contained within Adobe Photoshop CS4.

Adobe Photoshop CS4 makes editing your photography fun. Manipulate and enhance your photos, create amazing works of art, turn your ordinary photos into extraordinary masterpieces. Add Photoshop CS4 to your arsenal of photography tools and see what you can create.

In learning AutoCAD, almost every user discovers they can use the BLOCK or BMAKE commands to give a name to a set of objects in a drawing. Most know they can use the WBLOCK command to export that block into a completely independent drawing if desired. They also know how to use the INSERT command or Design Center to place these blocks into any drawing as required.

What most AutoCAD users do not know is that they can use the ATTDEF command to define an attribute object which asks users questions when blocks are inserted.

To create an attribute, use the ATTDEF command to you name the attribute (PartNumber for example), provide a default value (12-3456789 for example) and provide a prompt or question to ask the user (What is the part number for this block?).

After you define the attribute or attributes you want to insert into a block, you can just use the BLOCK or BMAKE commands and select all the geometry and attributes you want to put into the block object. Whenever you insert this block, you will find you are prompted to answer questions. You can use the ATTEDIT command to edit attributes in inserted blocks as required.

When you create attributes you can put them on their own layer. This makes it easy to hide them or display them by turning the layer they are on off. This is handy when you are using attributes to hold information like phone numbers on a desk floor plan. Sometimes you will want to see, and plot, the desks without the text.

Probably the most interesting application for attributes is that you can use them to create tables and reports that accurately reflect the information you have stored in your blocks. The process for doing this is somewhat complex. The ATTEXT command exports the data in attributes to a file. But you must create a “template file” that lists the names of the attributes you want to extract.

Extracted data is stored in a space delimited file that you can import into any spreadsheet. Many people use attributes to create accurate parts lists and tables.

If you haven’t become familiar with AutoCAD’s attribute commands, you have missed out on one of its most flexible and useful tools. Attribute commands change from version to version, but ATTDEF and ATTEDIT have been in every version you are likely to have access to.

You can learn more about attributes by checking out the AutoCAD Help files. Step by step tutorials that show how to use attribute appear at www.complete-support.com. Just search for ATTDEF.

Photoshop vs Photoshop Elements: Which One Is Right for You?

In this article, I’ll discuss 2 excellent softwares for manipulating digital photographs and images - Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. Hopefully, after reading this, you can make an informed decision.

Photoshop and Photoshop Elements differ in three main areas: price, ease of use, and features. Let’s go over each one.

1. Price - Adobe Photoshop costs a whopping $699, while Photoshop Elements is $99.
For many, the price will dictate their choice. Keep in mind, some professionals use Elements even for their work. They use workarounds such as add-ons and other tools to get Elements to do what they need to accomplish. But more on that later.

2. Ease of Use - With Photoshop geared towards professional image users, you can expect it to be more difficult to use. Elements has a more intuitive, more user-friendly interface.
However, if you’re already familiar with photo editing software, such as earlier versions of Photoshop, then this won’t be much of an issue.

3. Features - As you might have guessed, the differences in price and ease of use stem from differences in features. Photoshop has functionalities which Elements doesn’t have… and vice versa.

For example, Photoshop has more robust features for manipulating the finer details of a digital image. Here are just some features in Photoshop, which aren’t in Elements:

- CMYK and LAB color modes

- Ability to work with 16-bit and 32-bit images

- Layer masks and layer comps

- Adjustment layers for color balance, curves and selective color

- Advanced text formatting, including putting text on a path

But don’t ditch Elements yet. It also has features you won’t find in Photoshop, such as:

- Automatic red-eye removal

- Cookie cutter tool, background templates and artwork

- Photo Organizer, which lets you tag photos and later find them quickly through tags. Photo Organizer also lets you share your photos by creating online galleries, slideshows, photo books and more.

As mentioned earlier, many Elements users find they can do with Elements a lot of the things Photoshop can do. Some of the functionalities are there but need to be “unlocked.” Add-ons and tools for Photoshop Elements are developed by users of both software. Both are powerful software for perfecting your digital images. Choose the one that best meets your needs within the resources you have.

Why do new multi layer balls used on tour spin less than the old tour balls off the driver but spin the same as the old wound balls off the wedge? Ryan Dees, Gainesville, Fla.

During the collision between the driver and the ball (which lasts for less than half a millisecond, 200 times faster than you can blink your eye), there’s an average force of 1,500 pounds being applied to the ball. This violent collision compresses the ball to about two-thirds of its diameter. The cover thickness is less than 3 percent of the size of the ball but doesn’t much influence the outcome of this collision.

Two-piece balls, which have been on the market for many years, will spin less and go a little farther off the driver than the soft, wound balata balls that were used on tour until five years ago. The hard-core two-piece ball will spin about the same as the wound ball off the wedge only if it has an extremely soft and relatively thick cover. But such a cover reduces the ball’s distance off the driver. The trick is to get a ball to spin less than a wound ball off the driver but the same as a wound ball off the wedge. A multi layer ball will do this because it has a soft core (for speed off the driver face) surrounded by a hard mantle and a thin soft cover. The mantle reduces spin off the driver, and the cover, too thin to influence driver launch conditions, is soft enough to significantly influence the spin off the wedge. The collision between the wedge and the soft cover, less violent and more oblique than with a driver, generates more spin. Thus, designers combined new materials with a better understanding of the synergy between ball and club to create a more efficient multi layer ball.

Could you please shed some light on how to determine the proper driver length and what the average driver length is on tour? Chuck Mooney, Davenport, Iowa.

The average length driver on the PGA Tour is 44 1/2 inches. For most golfers, I recommend no longer than 44 inches. This will give you more control than the longer driver. You will develop more confidence and make a better swing. On average this will give you more accurate and longer drives. You might not win bragging rights with an occasional testosterone-inspired long drive, but you will lose fewer balls and enjoy your game a lot more. Shaft length is important, but don’t forget to make sure you’re comfortable with the flex of the shaft. Remember: If you think the 44-inch driver is too short, how on earth are you going to use a 3-wood or your hybrids, which are a lot shorter?

Is there a published report that gives a true count of equipment used by PGA Tour pros? B.C., New Orleans

An organization called the Darrell Survey goes through every competitor’s bag on Thursday of every tournament to verify the pros are using the equipment they claim to be using or the manufacturers claim they’re using. It has conducted these surveys for about 60 years. The information is sold to the manufacturers, who use the counts for advertising purposes. The information is considered reliable–at least for the first day of the tournament. Players may change equipment after the tournament begins, potentially draining the winning putt with a club not reported on the survey.

Summer is here and weekend party lovers just love having friends around for food and nibbles in the sunshine. Many of you love preparing the party food but just seem to have trouble making that cake centre piece look as good as it should. For those that are serious about their cake decorating hobby should maybe learn cake decorating at home with an online cake decorating course, but until then here’s some handy hints you may find useful.

When you learn cake decorating at home you have to begin with the basics. These are the cake decorating tips that are essential and things that you need to know before you can start. You will need a workplace that will give you enough room to be able to decorate your cake in comfort. When you learn cake decorating at home the first thing you learn about cake decorating is that the cake must be completely cooled before you make any attempt to decorate it. If the cake is still warm, you will run into many problems.

When you learn cake decorating at home you need to be focused on the job in hand and make sure you have gathered all of the tools and ingredients you need for decorating your cake. Some items you will need are: a syringe or piping bag, the type and size tips you will be using, and the coupler to attach the tips to the piping bag. You will need to plan how you will decorate the cake ahead of time, so you can have all of the tools you need on hand before you begin decorating.

To start with you need to ice or frost the cake with royal icing, butter cream icing, or fondant icing, making sure you place a thin layer of frosting over the top to hold the crumbs together. When that is done, you will frost over that layer. It is important to make sure the icing you use is the right consistency. If the icing is too thin or too thick it will affect the end result of your cake decorating. If you are creating a decorated cake and you think your frosting is too thin, you can add a bit more confectioners sugar. Make sure you add this a little at a time as it can become too stiff if you add too much. If you feel your icing is too stiff, carefully add a bit more liquid.

Icing is used in different consistencies for different cake decorating techniques. When you are making roses, or any flower with upright petals, and will be piping figures on the cake, you will want to use a stiff icing or your petals may droop. To make stars, flowers with flat petals, and shell borders, you will want to use a medium consistency. A thin icing is used for writing on the cake, and thinner, more delicate work such as vines and leaves. If you add about 2 teaspoons of light corn syrup to your icing, you will find the icing will flow easier and make it more flexible.

A thin icing mixture should be used for writing characters, and thinner, pointier shapes and styles such as leaves and vines. Add a couple of teaspoons of light corn syrup to the icing mix to make it more flexible and easier flowing.

Once the cake is iced, it is time to begin decorating. The way you hold the icing bag is important, as the direction and angle you hold the piping bag will influence the way the patterns and shapes you create, will turn out. Thankfully there are only two positions to hold the piping bag to make certain designs.

The first position is to hold the piping bag at a 90 degree angle, straight up from the surface of the cake. This is used for the simpler decorations that don’t involve a lot of movement in making the design. The centre of rosebuds, adding eyes to a character or making stars and dots. The other position involves the piping bag being held at a 45 degree angle, or holding the bag half-way between straight up and the surface of the cake.

In this position you have more flexibility to create sweeping styles, and create shapes with your piping hand. You can use this angle for flower petals, or writing on the cake. Some of the piping tips, like the tips for basket weave, petal and ruffle, have ends that are irregular. There is a right and wrong way to hold the bag when working with them.

Now that you know the basics here are a few tips to start you on your way to making a decorated cake.

Bows: This technique will make your cake look like a wrapped gift. Use a flat tip and medium icing. Hold your bag at a 45 degree angle and sweep your bag left, making half of the bow. Make the same movement to the right, making a figure 8. Hold the bag and sweep downward and out from the centre of the bow, once on each side to make 2 streamers.

Basket Weave: Using this technique will give the sides of your cake the look of a basket. You may want to practice on a piece of waxed paper until you feel confident enough to begin on the cake. Using the basket weave tip and an icing that is of medium consistency, take turns applying a vertical stripe, following it with a horizontal stripe across the vertical. Make sure the horizontal stripes are a bit longer so the vertical stripe will fit across it. Soon you will see a basket pattern become apparent.

If you don’t feel confident to do a cake then how about cupcakes. They can make a great centre piece when done right, they’re easy to make and can be very simple to decorate and your friends and children will love them, honestly! When decorating cupcakes as a beginner it’s best to stick with the most basic vanilla flavoured frosting and your favourite food colours

Simple Star Burst Effect: Using two different colours of vanilla frosting pipe a spiral on to top of a cupcake making sure you leave the middle empty. Using your second colour do another spiral but on the inside of the first one. When that is done, take a toothpick and drag it gently from the centre to the outer edge of the cupcake. This blends the two different colour frostings making a really pretty looking star burst effect. If you used black food colouring this would give you a spiders web effect. How about adding the names of your friends on them, blue for the boys and pink for the girls. A smiley face always brings a smile to everyone else. Use your imagination and get creative.
